Earth Day 2011

Earth Day was first proclaimed in 1970 in the U.S. and Canada, is celebrated internationally since 1990, holiday in Bulgaria noted the 1993 goal is to unite people on the planet in environmental protection.

On April 22, 1970 was first celebrated International Day of the Earth. And millions of Americans participate in the demonstration and urge politicians, statesmen, business circles to include in their priorities of environmental protection. The first celebration of Earth Day is organized by Gaylord Nelson - former governor and senator from Wisconsin who raised the cause of conservation and Dennis Heyes - a prominent student leader. In the events of the first Earth Day to include more than 20 million Americans from all over the country. As a result of this event formed a powerful movement to protect the environment and have adopted laws on clean air and clean water of the United States.

Earth Day - April 22, is the largest non-religious holiday celebrated the world over half a billion people. Each year the International Network for Earth Day coordinate more than 12,000 partners in 174 countries aimed at protecting the Earth and preserve life on it. Network aims to create a broad civil support for sustainable and effective environmental policies for development worldwide.

Bulgaria is one of the first countries that joined the international celebration of Earth Day, which began in 1990 in the International Organizing Committee for the celebration of Earth Day, Bulgaria is represented by Blagovest Sendov. He formed the National Committee for Earth Day. The call for the celebration of Earth Day to respond thousands of Bulgarians and the day is celebrated with various events devoted to environmental protection. On April 22, 1992 President of the Republic of Bulgaria Zhelev signed the oath in the name of Earth. Over 30,000 Bulgarian children are signed under the Declaration of authority for life on Earth. The declaration was presented to the UN Conference on Environment and Development held in Rio de Janeiro in June 1992 Every year thereafter, Bulgaria participated in the celebration of Earth Day and contributes to a cleaner and healthier environment for storing life on the planet.
