Eid al-Fitr: How Kwara Muslims Celebrated the End of Ramadan

 Eid al-Fitr is a festival that marks the end of Ramadan, the holy month of fasting and prayer for Muslims. It is a time of joy, gratitude and charity, as well as a time to seek forgiveness and peace. In Kwara state, Nigeria, Muslims celebrated Eid al-Fitr on Thursday, April 20, 2023, with prayers, greetings and donations.


According to the Tribune Online, the governor of Kwara state, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, and the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, felicitated with the Muslim community and urged them to pray for Nigeria's unity and progress. They also called for adherence to COVID-19 safety protocols and respect for the rule of law.


The governor attended the Eid prayer at the Ilorin Central Mosque, where he was received by the Emir and other dignitaries. He later visited some orphanages and hospitals in Ilorin, the state capital, to distribute food items and cash gifts. He said that his administration was committed to improving the welfare of the people and delivering on its promises.


The Emir, in his sermon, thanked Allah for enabling Muslims to witness another Eid al-Fitr. He said that Ramadan was a period of spiritual cleansing and renewal, and that Muslims should maintain the virtues of piety, honesty and generosity that they practiced during the month. He also prayed for peace, security and development in Kwara state and Nigeria at large.


Many Muslims in Kwara state expressed happiness and gratitude for witnessing another Eid al-Fitr. They said that they enjoyed the festive atmosphere and the opportunity to visit their relatives and friends. They also shared their hopes and aspirations for the future of their state and country.
