The developer of the popular Horizon series, Guerrilla Games, has confirmed that it is working on a third installment of the franchise, following the upcoming release of Horizon Forbidden West.
In a blog post on its official website, the studio announced some changes in its leadership team, as well as its plans for the future of Horizon. According to the post, Mathijs de Jonge, who has been the game director of Horizon Zero Dawn and Horizon Forbidden West, will now oversee the entire Horizon franchise as creative director. Meanwhile, Ben McCaw, who has been the narrative director of both games, will take over as game director of Horizon Forbidden West.
The post also revealed that Guerrilla Games has already started working on "Aloy's next adventure", which is presumably Horizon Zero Dawn 3. The studio did not share any details about the project, but said that it is "very excited" about it.
Horizon Zero Dawn is an action role-playing game that was released in 2017 for PlayStation 4 and later for PC. It follows the story of Aloy, a young woman who lives in a post-apocalyptic world where machines have taken over. The game received critical acclaim for its visuals, gameplay, story and characters.
Horizon Forbidden West is the sequel to Horizon Zero Dawn, and it is expected to launch in late 2023 for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5. It will continue Aloy's journey as she explores new lands and faces new threats. The game will feature new environments, enemies, weapons and abilities.
Horizon Zero Dawn 3 is the third game in the series, and it is currently in development at Guerrilla Games. No release date or platforms have been announced yet.
