The Oakland A's extended their winning streak to 10 games on Thursday night, thanks to a dramatic walk-off home run by Matt Olson in the bottom of the 10th inning. The A's beat the Minnesota Twins 7-6 at the Coliseum, completing a four-game sweep and improving their record to 14-7.
The game was a back-and-forth affair, with both teams scoring runs in the late innings. The Twins took a 6-5 lead in the top of the 10th on a sacrifice fly by Luis Arraez, but the A's rallied in the bottom half. Ramon Laureano singled and stole second base, setting up Olson's heroics. The first baseman crushed a 2-1 pitch from Taylor Rogers over the right field wall, sending the crowd into a frenzy and his teammates into a celebration.
"It's an incredible feeling," Olson said after the game. "I don't think there's anything better in baseball than a walk-off homer. To do it in front of our fans, who have been awesome this homestand, it's just a great feeling."
The A's have been on a roll since starting the season with six straight losses. They have won 14 of their last 15 games, including three walk-off wins in their last four games. They have also shown resilience and versatility, winning games with pitching, hitting and defense.
"We're playing really good baseball right now," manager Bob Melvin said. "We're finding different ways to win. We're getting contributions from everyone. We're playing with a lot of confidence and energy. It's fun to watch."
The A's will look to keep their streak alive on Friday, when they start a three-game series against the Baltimore Orioles at Camden Yards. Frankie Montas will take the mound for Oakland, while John Means will pitch for Baltimore.
